Survey finds UK consumers still wary of mobile shopping

By John Glenday A survey of UK consumers conducted by retail technology group Omnico has found that shoppers are still shirking online purchases from their mobile phones with 56 per cent of those surveyed never having done so. Researchers highlight three key reasons why this might be so with 33 per cent citing security concerns, 31 per cent deterred by small screens and 29 per cent preferring the experience of a physical store. This suggests significant scope for continued expansion in the sector for retailers willing and able to embrace the sector. Google poised to unveil new television set top box

By John Glenday Google is reportedly poised to unveil a new television set-top box later today at its annual I/O developer’s conference in San Francisco. Reports in the Wall Street Journal suggest that the device will run a variation of its Android operating system and be built by a third party, offering a simplified smart TV viewing experience. Scotland Yard to quiz Rupert Murdoch as a suspect in alleged criminality at UK papers

By John Glenday Scotland Yard has formally notified Rupert Murdoch of their desire to quiz him as a suspect as part of their ongoing enquiry into alleged criminality at his UK newspaper operations. Detectives agreed to hang fire until the end of the phone hacking trial but with that now reaching its conclusion investigators are once again turning their attentions to the Australian media mogul. Murdoch is set to be interviewed under caution in the UK soon with his son, James, also rumoured to be facing a grilling. Alistair Darling threatens to walk out of STV independence debate with Salmond

By John Glenday Alistair Darling, head of the pro-UK Better Together campaign group, has threatened to walk out of a televised TV debate with his nemesis, Alex Salmond, after accusing broadcaster STV of caving into the First Minister’s demands. STV wants to reschedule the planned encounter from 16 July after Salmond said he would not participate unless UK Prime Minister David Cameron also took part – despite insisting for months that the schedule was non-negotiable.
