David Cameron has apologised for hiring Andy Coulson as director of communications, committing to a promise he made in 2011.
Coulson was today found guilty of conspiracy to hack phones at the phone-hacking trial at the Old Bailey.
Cameron said that he took “full responsibility” for the hiring, adding: “I did so on undertakings I was given by him about phone hacking and those turn out not to be the case. I always said if I turned out to be wrong I would make a full and frank apology and I do that today.
