The phone-hacking trial ended suddenly today as the jury wrote a note to the judge that they had failed to reach a verdict on the final charge, conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office, against Andy Coulson and former News of the World royal editor Clive Goodman
The presiding judge, Mr Justice Saunders, thanked the jury for more than 43 hours of deliberations, thanked them for their “service to the country” and released them from any obligation to serve on a jury again.
