Maria Miller bows to media pressure in expenses row and tenders resignation

Culture secretary Maria Miller has tendered her resignation as culture secretary after being vilified in the press for over claiming on expenses.
This faux pas was compounded by a perfunctory apology to the Commons and criticism from the independent parliamentary commissioner for standards over her ‘attitude’ to the inquiry.
Downing Street confirmed that Miller had bowed to pressure and asked to relinquish her role in a letter penned to the Prime Minister this morning following, which David Cameron accepted.
