Amazon poised to launch standalone competitor to Spotify within months
By John Glenday
Amazon is to adopt a more aggressive stance in the streaming subscription music sphere by tackling Spotify head on with the imminent launch of a standalone $9.99 per month service with a full catalogue of tracks.
Set to launch within a matter of months the new service will supercede a far more limited streaming service offered to its Prime subscribers, according to Reuters.
Despite its scale, Amazon faces a tough challenge breaking into what has become a crowded sector with the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal, SoundCloud Go, Deezer, Rhapsody/Napster and Guvera all competing to hit the right note.
