BBC iPlayer sees a third more smart TVs tuning in over Christmas than 2014 festive period

As 2015 closed, the BBC was able to reap the benefits of its digital-centric adaptation by accommodating a wide variety of devices over Christmas.

Compared against 21-31 December 2014, the latest festive period saw a 32 per cent jump in smart TV viewers, comprising 38 per cent of unique iPlayer browsers.

Tablet visits accounted for 24 per cent and mobiles 17 per cent of all views. Additionally, the BBC reported that there were 391,000 app downloads across both platforms, a total of 90,000 of which occurred on 25 December.
