Copying CDs and DVDs for personal use illegal again as High Court overturns nine month old ruling

A law allowing copying CDs and DVDs for personal use has been revoked nine months after it was introduced.

The decision came after a challenge from a group of music industry organisations including the Musicians’ Union, UK Music and the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (Basca).

A High Court judge ruled against the legislation change citing its lack of copyright levy.

UK music chief executive, Jo Dipple, said: “It is only right that Government gives us the standard of legislation our music deserves. We want to work with Government so this can be achieved.
