Crash-prone eBay website goes offline for the second time in a month

Online auction house eBay is battling to maintain consumer confidence in its systems after its website was forced offline for the second time in a month.
The latest crash saw merchants and consumers unable to log-in to their accounts for more than five hours, rendering them unable to buy or sell items for the duration of the outage.
Chaos inevitably ensued as irate customers battled through a seven hour queue to be heard by eBay’s overwhelmed customer service team.
Exasperated customers were forced onto Twitter instead to vent their frustrations at the poor quality of service:
