Mourning David Bowie fans are seeking to immortalise their idol as a new face of £20 notes after launching a petition to commemorate the singer and actor.

Such a move would place Bowie as the next in line for such an honour, replacing economist and philosopher Adam Smith as the new face of the banknote.

Bank of England governor Mark Carney launched a public appeal for nominations for a visual artist to appear on a revamped note last May and fans are confident their man could get the nod – even though polls closed back in July.
