Google has cemented its position at the cutting edge of virtual reality cinema after earning an Academy Award nomination for a short film shot exclusively in the new medium.

Pearl, an animated short, joins illustrious company such as ‘La-La Land‘ and ‘Manchester by the Sea‘ in pursuit of Oscars glory by making its mark on the premier film awards with audiences drawn to its cartoon 360-degree visuals.
