Kmart has unveiled its first Christmas ad, promoting the retailer’s layaway service, but insists it is not, in fact, a Christmas commercial.

“Let’s say you have an event in late December that you need a lot of gifts for. Like, maybe your entire family is having a birthday on the same day,” the new ad suggests.

The ‘Merry birthday’ ad features elves, a big green tree, and a fat man in a red suit. So, in all, not Chrismassy.
