The Labour party has appointed Guardian columnist and executive editor Seumas Milne as executive director of strategy and communications, with effect from 26 October.

A former comment and labour editor at the Guardian, Milne has previously worked for the Economist and is the author of several books; including titles pertaining to the miners’ strike, international politics and economic policy.
