Gary Lineker has waded into the debate over the future of the BBC, dubbing culture secretary John Whittingdale “a chump” for joking about abolishing the broadcaster.
The Match of the Day presenter took to Twitter to call out the politician, saying: “This chump sums politicians up. The BBC is revered throughout the world. We should be proud of it, not destroy it,” in response to a story posted by the Guardian claiming Whittingdale had described the potential collapse of the BBC as a “tempting prospect.”
