MP’s lambast ‘utterly inept’ police raid on Sir Cliff Richard’s home

A group of MP’s have attacked South Yorkshire Police’s handling of a botched raid on the home of veteran singer Sir Cliff Richard, describing the forces conduct during the operation as ‘inept’.

The high-profile action saw senior officers attempt to cut a deal with a BBC reporter who approached them ahead of the raid, allowing live television news cameras hovering overhead and reporters at the gates as officers swooped.

South Yorkshire Police conceded that their actions were ‘ultimately flawed’ but well intended but the MPs were more critical, observing that Sir Cliff had ‘suffered enormous, irreparable damage to his reputation’ in consequence.
