My favourite Super Bowl ad: Reebok, Terry Tate Office Linebacker – Chosen by Kinney Edwards, Tribal New York
The Reebok Terry Tate spot from 2003 is one of my all-time favorites.
It firmly breaks the athletic shoe commercial paradigm. It uses comedic storytelling, something I look for to break up the tension of the game.
I especially like all of the subtle and not-so-subtle inside jokes.
It’s filled with enough office culture references to connect with the audience, who probably wished they would see Terry in their office come Monday.
Especially when it comes to those pesky TPS reports.
The spot does exactly what a Super Bowl commercial should do in being surprising, entertaining and memorable.
