Online shoppers warned to beware, as availability of pirated products grows
Internet shoppers have been warned to be on their guard after a government report showed an increase in the availability of counterfeit goods online.
The study, produced by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) estimated that despite an increased focus from the government and police, there had been a 15 per cent increase in the sale of pirated or copied products on online auction sites and social media this year.
The report also highlighted what it called: “The indisputable link between IP crime and other criminal activity including serious organised crime, money laundering, benefit fraud, drug-dealing and violence.”
