Virtual reality fans keen to get their hands on a PlayStation VR headset can mark down 13 October in their diaries and start saving up the necessary $399 because Sony has finally confirmed the gadget’s release date and price.

Sony’s entry into the virtual reality field was unveiled at an E3 press conference and follows the launch of Facebook’s Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Whilst underpowered relative to its peers the PlayStation VR nevertheless promises to gain the greatest market share courtesy of its relatively low price and existing PS4 customer base.
