Stephen Colbert , one of the top media figures in the US, gave a great tongue-in-cheek send-off to the Scottish independence vote today with this segment on his top-rated show late on Tuesday.

Colbert , who kept a surprise up his sleeve until late in the the slot, made clear his support for Scottish independence as did his guest, Matt Wells the US assistant editor of the Guardian.
