MWC: Mastercard deepens mobile services with in-app payment launch

By Jessica Davies Mastercard has extended its mobile payments proposition with the launch of Masterpass in-app payments, letting users make transactions from within any mobile app. The credit card giant, which unveiled the new service at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today, has created the service to “eliminate” the need for users to store their bank card information across multiple mobile apps, providing a fast, simple payment experience. It also means users can buy items or service via one tap on their smartphones, without leaving the app environment. Yes Scotland web site blocked by Internet filters in Scottish school

By Mark Leiser A young student at St Stephens school in Port Glasgow in Scotland posted a picture of what appears to be evidence that her school was blocking the Yes Scotland website. Caitlin Brannigan tweeted that the Yes Scotland site was blocked completely from viewing from school computers, while the Better Together site was accessible to students. Ms Brannigan can be said to be a keen and active member of the Independence movement and spent the weekend campaigning for the Yes vote. Chris Moyles takes to Twitter to explain involvement in tax avoidance scheme

By Natalie Mortimer Former Radio 1 DJ, Chris Moyles has posted a series of tweets on the social media website after claiming to be a second-hand car dealer, in order to avoid paying tax on £1 million. Moyles, who was the host of Radio 1’s Breakfast Show, claimed to have “engaged in self-employment as a used car trader” in a judgement published by the First-Tier Tribunal Tax Chamber on Friday (21 February). Norwegian children charity’s social experiment goes viral

The charity used hidden cameras to film a shivering 11 year-old boy as he sat alone rubbing his arms at a bus stop in Oslo. The experiment is part of a campaign to gather donations to send coats and blankets to help Syrian children get through the winter. V05 beats Cadbury to BRITs social buzz with help from Twitter Amplify

By Natalie Mortimer Hair care brand V05 beat Cadbury in the BRITs inevitable social buzz contest, according to data analysis by Mindshare. The #VO5music hashtag received 5,332 Twitter mentions, beating Cadbury’s #FreeTheJoy which received 3,287 mentions. During the BRITs VO5 published 12 exclusive videos of live footage using Twitter Amplify, the social media site’s video promotion tool, which was a first in the UK. The videos included seven instant replays of live performances, and four videos of James Corden in conversation with different artists.
