Coca-Cola ups 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign with football promotion

By Natalie Mortimer Coca-Cola has launched a new on-pack promotion as part of its latest 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, which gives consumers the chance to win a limited edition football. As an official partner for the sporting event, the drinks giant is giving away around one million of the Coca-Cola branded footballs, as it aims to “inspire” people to get active this summer. Android and iOS continue to squeeze Windows Phone out of the mass market

By John Glenday The challenge faced by Microsoft in growing its Windows Phone operating system into the mass market has been laid bare by the latest smartphone sales data to be published by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech which show the platform continue to languish in distant third behind its more entrenched rivals. In the first three months of 2014 Apple enjoyed a sales boost in Europe, taking it to 19.2 per cent whilst Android remains the pre-eminent player, commanding a 70.2 per cent market share. Teens turn away from Twitter and Facebook, WhatsApp and Snapchat gain users for privacy

By Ishbel Macleod Teenagers are turning away from traditional social media sites, while Instagram, Tumblr and mobile messaging services saw a boost. The GlobalWebIndex survey discovered that Shapchat was the service which saw the biggest increase, with a 60 per cent increase in users between Q3 and Q4 2013. London Police IP crime unit suspends 2.5K fraudulent websites

By Jessica Davies The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) has suspended more than 2,500 websites suspected of generating “tens of millions” of pounds for selling counterfeit goods. The suspensions, which coincided with World IP day on 26 April, mark the latest step in the crime unit’s Operation Ashiko, for which it is collaborating with brands and brand protection organisations and website registries worldwide including Nominet.
