Huit Denim’s jeans factory takes fan requests with new #HuitMusic box

By Michael Feeley Hiut Denim has launched a new ‘Internet of Things’ product – #HiutMusic – that combines Raspberry Pi, Twitter and Spotify technology to connect its factory in Wales with fans of the brand all over the world. Hiut enlisted creative technology agency Knit to build a product that automatically plays the music tracks that have been requested by fans of the brand via a #hiutmusic Twitter hashtag. Next 15 bolsters programmatic capabilities with Encore acquisition

By Stephen Lepitak Next 15 Communications has announced the acquisition of programmatic advertising technology business, Encore while revealing a growth in revenue of 10.9 per cent to £109.2m. The group, which released its annual results, bolstered by client wins with Time Warner Cable, Vimeo and Twitter, saw its operating profit increase by 44 per cent to £12.7m. Group organic revenue grew by 6.1 per cent and the group’s US arm increased by double 11.3 per cent. Time Warner and Charter reportedly drawing up plans for mega-merger

By John Glenday Media conglomerate Time Warner Cable is reportedly locked in talks with Charter Communications with a view to green lighting a proposed mega-merger, which would allow both businesses to benefit from economies of scale. It follows a failed $45bn bid by Comcast for the firm which drew to a close a succession of acrimonious, unsolicited takeover bids by Charter in 2013 and 2014. Salman Rushdie blasts novelist friends for snubbing Charlie Hebdo honour

By John Glenday Sir Salman Rushdie has publicly criticised his friends and fellow novelists Peter Carey and Michael Ondaatje for boycotting a US freedom of speech award for French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Both writers had snubbed the event after claiming that a publication which was offensive to Muslims was unsuited for such an honour, a decision which led Rushdie to lash out and label the pair “pussies” Rushdie wrote on Twitter: “The award will be given.
