Netflix shifts focus from Hollywood movies to concentrate on exclusives

By John Glenday Netflix is to renew its focus on home grown content after vowing to shift resources from licensing big budget Hollywood blockbusters toward more unique content such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. As a result of the shift in focus the streaming service is set to lose a slew of big name films including ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’, ‘World War Z’ and ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’, licensing arrangements for which are set to expire by the end of September. Sky Sports News kick to off NFL coverage with 32 Live!

By John Glenday Sky Sports New is to embrace American football by becoming the first broadcaster to visit every NFL franchise in one day with ’32 Live’. Presented by Jim White the new show will air on 9 September and includes an interview with NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent in New York followed by live updates from the New York Giants and the New York Jets. Twitter zeroes in on new chief marketing officer

By John Glenday Twitter is reportedly close to signing up a new chief marketing officer after incumbent Anthony Noto revealed that the micro blogging site was close to appointing someone new. Noto, who has performed the role for the past three months, told AdAge that he is seeking a proven individual who has demonstrated marketing results through marketing and worked for a global, digital ‘quantitative-driven’ firm. No timescale has been given for the appointment but Noto hopes to have the individual in place in time to oversee a major television and digital video marketing campaign pencilled in for later this year. Associated Press accused of sexism for referring to Amal Clooney as ‘actor’s wife’

By John Glenday The Associated Press news agency has taken flak after it posted a tweet referring to noted human rights lawyer Amal Clooney as an ‘actor’s wife’ in its coverage of an ongoing court case, sparking criticism it has belittled her career in her own right.
