While limited in its scale for now, the US-based scheme offers up viewing numbers for shows as well as gender and age information. It does not however, track international subscribers or those who stream shows from mobile devices. According to sources close to Vue, the business is giving serious consideration to becoming a key contender for the Odeon business, which could go on sale as soon as October. Odeon’s owners expect the cinema chain to go for £1bn. By Seb Joseph The average smartphone user now spends an hour and three quarters a day online, noticeably more than the equivalent on PCs and tablets, according to an Enders report. Phones account for nearly half of all time spent online, a statistic backed by a recent Ofcom survey that found smartphones have already overtaken laptops as the UK’s preferred device for going online.
