Media execs have taken a step closer to finding out how many people are watching House of Cards on Netflix

By Seb Joseph The measurement firm is months into an initiative that allows it to finally monitor almost 1,000 shows on streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, according to the Wall Street Journal. While limited in its scale for now, the US-based scheme offers up viewing numbers for shows as well as gender and age information. It does not however, track international subscribers or those who stream shows from mobile devices. Netflix and its peers have been less than forthcoming in sharing their streaming data as they look to frame the narrative of their growth around subscriber numbers. Vue considers bold £600m bid for Odeon cinemas

By Seb Joseph The offer could be made when the business, owned by private equity firm Terra Firma, is put up for sale over the next few months, reported the Times. According to sources close to Vue, the business is giving serious consideration to becoming a key contender for the Odeon business, which could go on sale as soon as October. Odeon’s owners expect the cinema chain to go for £1bn. By Seb Joseph One vocal commentator took issue with the stylings of the armour to be worn by Games of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie’s character Captain Phasma in the upcoming The Force Awakens film after fan art of the Stormtrooper was posted online. While the fan tried to downplay the sexist nature of the observation, it did highlight certain prejudices as to what they felt female armour should look like. ‘Smartphone users to exceed PC Internet users by the end of the year’, finds study

By Seb Joseph The average smartphone user now spends an hour and three quarters a day online, noticeably more than the equivalent on PCs and tablets, according to an Enders report. Phones account for nearly half of all time spent online, a statistic backed by a recent Ofcom survey that found smartphones have already overtaken laptops as the UK’s preferred device for going online.
