The remarks came during an extraordinary morning of evidence from Sun head of News Chris Pharo, who is testifying over charges over allegations of illegal payments to police officer. Digital Publisher Axel Springer Acquires Business Insider

By Tony Connelly Axel Springer SE has agreed to purchase Business Insider in a $442m deal which will help the European publisher extend its global reach. The deal will see Axel Springer take control of an additional 88 per cent of the shares in New York City-based Business Insider, adding to the 9 per cent which it already owned. Following the deal Axel Springer SE’s digital audience will increase by a third, meaning its unique monthly visitors will grow from 76 million to 200. Amazon expands online grocery offering with trial in London and Birmingham

By Sarah Vizard From today (29 September), Amazon customers in London and Birmingham will be able to buy from a range of 50 branded products including Lurpak butter, Cathedral City cheddar cheese, Birds Eye fish fingers and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. That is alongside the range of “store cupboard” staples it already offers, such as coffee, bottled water and tea. The service will be available to members of Amazon’s Prime Now service, which offers one-hour delivery. Amazon says it plans to keep adding products to the service in future. Amazon rolls out its Uber-like service allowing people to sign up for delivery jobs through an app

By Tony Connelly Amazon has rolled out a new programme as part of its Prime Now serves which will allow people to sign up for delivery jobs through an app, similar to how Uber operates. Amazon Flex is currently trialling in the company’s hometown of Seattle and uses a network of independent contractors to deliver orders to Amazon Prime Now customers within one hour. The app lets people sign up for shifts and pays them $20 per hour for delivering parcels. It will also serve as the platform from which jobs will be relayed to delivery workers.
