Ad fraud: The marketing industry’s $7.2bn problem

By Sarah Vizard Despite numerous warnings, marketers are continuing to waste billions of dollars on digital advertising that never gets seen. According to research commissioned by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), advertisers will lose $7.2bn to bot fraud this year. That is up from $6.3bn in 2015. Part of the issue is that marketers are spending increasing amounts on digital advertising, meaning ad fraud is bound to grow. Adidas' decision to terminate IAAF contract illustrates the evolution of sports marketing

By Tony Connelly Adidas’ decision to terminate its sponsorship deal with IAAF comes as no surprise given the revelations surrounding the doping scandal and while the decision was influenced by the morals of the situation, it has also been a pragmatic one which illustrates the evolution of sports marketing. Facebook extends Audience Network to support mobile web

By Natalie Mortimer Facebook has extended its advertising network Audience Network to include support for mobile web pages, as it looks to offer publishers better more ways to monetise mobile web traffic. First launched in April 2014 the extension will now enable publishers to use Audience Network’s people-based targeting and ad formats, including native ads to monetise their audience on third-party mobile websites. It works in a similar way to the existing Audience Network product for mobile apps but will cover the delivery of ads to mobile websites. Rogue filmmaker taps Kickstarter to force the ratings board to watch ten hours of paint drying

By John McCarthy A filmmaker looked to protest an administration fee charged by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) crowdfunded and submitted a 12 hour video of paint drying. Charlie Lyne launched the stunt to raise awareness of the £1,000 fee the BBFC will charge to classify an average length movie – a hurdle he argued stymied many young and aspiring producers in the UK.
