Tidal rides crest of a subscriber wave to hit 3m members

By John Glenday Music streaming service Tidal has hit 3m subscribers after racking up 900,000 new customers last June alone, as it marks its first year of operation. Scotching the concerns of naysayers who doubted that Tidal would ever take off the service appears to have benefitted from a raft of exclusive releases from big name stars such as Rhianna, Beyonce and Kanye West – all of whom own a stake in the business. New Dixons Carphone CMO Gary Booker promises ‘disruptive’ advertising as he questions success of ‘the weepie approach’

By Thomas Hobbs Booker was previously joint CMO for Dixons Carphone along with Julien Diment. Booker oversaw marketing at Dixon Retail’s brands such as Currys and PC World, while Diment had responsibility for Carphone Warehouse. However, Booker now oversees the entire group’s marketing function after the two divisions were recently merged. Diment, meanwhile, is now working in the firm’s connected services division, working on the rollout of its US store partnership with Sprint. Twitter enables image tags to aid visually impaired

By John Glenday Twitter has enhanced its image functionality by enabling users to tag pictures with an image description to improve accessibility amongst the visually impaired. From today those with the Apple and iOS app will be able to describe their pictures in up to 420 characters which can then be accessed and read by the visually impaired using an automated text reader. The new functionality has also been designed to aid search engine compatibility, by enabling labelled tweets to be more readily paired up with search terms.
