Facebook’s topic-based feed lands in Australia

By Jennifer Faull Facebook has started to roll out a new timeline feature that splits posts into topics – such as TV or pets – giving people “a new way to see a stream of stories”. The social giant starts testing the feed in Australia with a pop-up alerting people to the change. It allows people to change their timeline settings so that, by default, they will see posts bundled into topics. The topic groups set by Facebook can be customised by the user and new ones can also be added. JCDecaux founder dies age 78

By Jennifer Faull Jean-Claude Decaux, founder outdoor advertising company JCDecaux, has died at the age of 78. Decaux stepped down as chief executive of the company in 2000, handing the reigns to his two sons. He served as honorary chairman of the board since May 2013. His death was confirmed on Friday by the JCDecaux Group. No further details have been given at this time. He is credited with pioneering the development “street furniture”, having convinced local governments on the 1960s that public spaces, such as bus shelters, could be se financed by ads. Twitter’s 'bug bounty' programme pays out $322k to ethical hackers

By Jennifer Faull Twitter’s so called ‘bug bounty’ programme – which offers cash in exchange for discovers a vulnerability with the site – has shelled out $322, 420 (£220,503) since it launched two years ago. Since May 2014, a total of 1,662 researchers have detected bugs on Twitter that have earned them cash. The smallest amount paid was $140 (£95), while the biggest hand out amounted to $12,040 (£8,234). One individual earned a total of $54,000 (£36,930) in 2015. In comparison to Facebook, however, this is relatively low. Within the first two years of its ‘bug bounty programme some researchers reportedly earned $100,000 (£68,390) each. Moneysupermarket, Domino’s and Laterooms.com to be given Alan Carr treatment in ad break takeover

By Jennifer Faull As the 2016 Channel 4 Comedy Gala returns to screens this weekend for the seventh year, once again ‘Chatty Man’ star Alan Carr will take over the ad break. Victorian Plumbing, Domino’s, LateRooms.com, MoneySuperMarket, Plenty and Premier Inn will all be given the Alan Carr treatment before viewers are asked to vote for their favourite in a Live Twitter Competition. The Channel 4 Comedy Gala is a celebration of comedy to raise money and awareness for Great Ormond Street Hospital charity.
