Home secretary calls for Whatsapp backdoor access following Westminster attacks

By Tony Connelly The standoff between tech firms and intelligence agencies over back door access looks set to intensify after the home secretary revealed that the man who killed killed four people in Westminster this week was using Whatsapp moments before the attack. Amazon avoids $1.5bn tax bill after judge rules its dealings with 'tax haven' Luxembourg were legal

By Tony Connelly Amazon has avoided a $1.5bn (£1.2bn) tax bill in the US after a court ruled that it was legal for online retailer to have paid tax on its European sales through a Luxembourg sub-company. The lengthy court battle between Amazon and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) came to a conclusion after Judge Albert Lauber ruled in favour of Amazon. In his ruling Lauber said it was legal for Amazon to have funnelled its European sales through a low-tax Luxembourg sub-company in 2005 and 2006, rather than pay the tax in the US. Uber pulls its self-driving cars from the road following crash

By Tony Connelly Uber‘s self driving car initiative is on hold after one of its cars was left on its side following a crash. The incident occurred in Arizona and involved a Volvo SUV operating in self-driving mode. The crash badly damaged another vehicle, however Uber said no one was hurt. A spokeswoman for the police in Tempe, Arizona said the accident occurred when another vehicle “failed to yield” to the Uber car at a left turn. “There was a person behind the wheel. Boris Johnson questions Google's willingness to address extremist content on YouTube

By Tony Connelly Boris Johnson has attacked Google for its failure to curb jihadist websites, mounting more pressure on the internet giant which could also be forced to cut advertising fees on YouTube in response to extremist content.
