‘The rule book has been ripped up’: agencies rethink pitching during coronavirus slowdown

By Jennifer Faull Advertisers are grappling with a new reality for 2020, leading to a cut in budgets and delay in any major marketing decisions. It’s having a knock-on effect to agencies and many are now rethinking their approach to new business and the clients they’re open to working with. Marketing consultancy Ebiquity recently surveyed the outlook of 44 major global advertisers with a combined media spend of over $15bn. Almost all were rethinking budgets for the year, with 80% planning to cut spend altogether. Alibaba launches 2020 Spring Thunder Initiative to give Chinese SMEs a leg up during Covid-19

By Shawn Lim Alibaba is launching the ‘2020 Spring Thunder Initiative’ to help small and medium enterprises in China succeed during the trying circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19). In a staff memo announcing the launch, chairman and chief executive Daniel Zhang said the initiative includes, but is not limited to helping export-focused SMEs expand into new markets through AliExpress, Lazada and Tmall World. BMW sends messages of hope as China picks itself up from the coronavirus pandemic
