The suggestion ruffled the feathers of Lord Norman Lamont, former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer who said it was “shameful argument” from the Publicis Groupe boss. By Rebecca Stewart Twitter has altered its classification in Apple’s App Store, moving from the ‘social network’ category and into ‘news’. The change means that it will now be competing with the likes of BBC News and the Wall Street Journal in the app download charts, rather than social giants like Facebook, Snapchat and Skype. Twitter joins Reddit as the only other large social network in the category, and the platform’s decision to take a more prominent place in the news division follows on from rival Facebook’s choice to shift its focus to video and conversational commerce in the form of chat bots. By John Glenday Snapchat has doubled the number of daily video views on its service to 10bn in under a year, a figure which has risen from 8bn in February and just 4bn last May. This exponential growth represents a 150 per cent increase in less than a year and has seen the service overtake Facebook in the video view stakes which managed just 8bn views in November using comparable metrics.
