19% of social media accounts associated with top ten brands are fraudulent, says study

By John McCarthy Fake brand social media accounts are on the rise according to a study into the shape of the industry from Proofpoint. From April through June 2016, the 10 top brands across different industries were identified and analysed across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. A total of 4,840 brands were found to be associated with these companies – almost a fifth (19 per cent) were fraudulent. Social media is reportedly a prime platform for fraud. Used as a corporate marketing and communications tool, it can be hijacked with malicious intent such as spamming users and misrepresenting the brand. Channel 4 hopes nostalgia pays with Crystal Maze return - David Tennant tipped as host

Consumer confidence enjoys summer bounce post-Brexit

By John Glenday A survey of consumer confidence has indicated that consumer sentiment has resumed an upward tack following a dip in the immediate aftermath of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union. Figures collated by market research firm GfK showed consumer confidence bounced back to -7 in August, up from just -12 in July, buoyed by a further reduction in interest rates, rising employment and low inflation. Andrex, Wilkinson and Durex among first brands to get on board with Amazon Dash

By Jennifer Faull Amazon Dash has launched in the UK with around 40 brand partners, including Andrex, Ariel, Durex, Dettol, Huggies, Pedigree, Lenor, Whiskas and Wilkinson. Dubbed as a ‘one-press’ way to order supplies of everyday items, the branded plastic buttons can be ordered online for £4.99 and placed next to a fridge, toilet, cooker etc. When a product runs out, the user simply taps the wi-fi enabled button and it can be re-ordered though Amazon.
