Cheers launches first unmanned and cashless store in Singapore

By Shawn Lim Convenience store chain Cheers unveiled an unmanned, cashless convenience store at Nanyang Polytechnic last Friday, a first of its kind in Singapore. The store allows customers to pay for ready-to-eat meals and local dishes like fried rice and hor fun, using one self-checkout system for cashless payments, as well as with quick response codes. Data and video analytics will be used by the store to analyse purchasing behaviour and customise its inventory, with an auto-ordering system eliminating manual stocktaking. 50 students from NYP’s School of Business will look after the store, which will double up as a training facility. Newspapers still hold sway over more UK voters than social media

By John Glenday Social media might be a rising star but when it comes to electioneering political parties might find their time best served by investing in the more traditional mediums of newspapers, according to a new poll of voter attitudes conducted by YouGov. Xiaomi's expansion plans receives US$1 billion boost

By Shawn Lim Electronics giant Xiaomi has announced that they have secured a US$1 billion loan in debt financing from a group of 18 banks led by Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley. The Beijing-based company also raised around $1.45 billion in equity financing from venture capital firms like Qualcomm Ventures and IDG Capital.
