Golfing champ Rory McIlroy faces being banned from tweeting selfies from the green during the Ryder Cup after organiser of next month’s Gleneagles event imposed a bar on uploading photographs to social media during the event.
McIlroy famously tweeted a viral ‘selfie’of himself holding his trophy aloft to 2m Twitter followers after winning the Open at Hoylake in July.
A repeat of the stunt now looks unlikely however as authorities take a dim view of such theatrics, with the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) and PGA European Tour both banning the dissemination of audio or video footage during the 6-day event.
