Sky Sports is expected to end the BBC’s 60-year relationship with The Open announcing the purchase of the exclusive broadcast rights next week.
Sky is expected to pay in excess of £10m a year for the rights up to an including the 2016 Championship at Royal Troon according to reports, some £3m more than the £7m the BBC pays under the terms of a deal agreed in 2010.
