Clothing retailers enjoy spike in smartphone product searches

Britain’s embattled retailers are receiving some welcome reprieve from declining sales courtesy of the burgeoning smartphone market, which is contributing to a spike in online product searches, according to the latest figures to be published by the British Retail Consortium and Google.

They show that clothing-related search terms have jumped 54 per cent over the first three months of the year, an effect further enhanced by a 10 per cent increase in international searches for British products.

This effect was mirrored by UK consumers who also upped the number of searches they made for foreign brands.
