The Queen's Speech and Downton Abbey final epsiode are the most watched TV programmes on Christmas Day

The Queen has won the Christmas TV ratings battle with its overall audience, broadcast simultaneously on BBC1 and ITV at 3pm, with Downton Abbey second in the overnight figures with 6.9 million as figures overall fell on last year.

According to figures released by the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB), including both the Queen’s Speech (6.1 million on BBC alone) and Mrs Brown’s Boys (6.4 million), 7 of the 10 most watched programmes on Christmas Day, were broadcast on BBC1 with Eastenders (7.55 million), Strictly Come Dancing (6.5 million), Stick Man (6.4 million), Call the Midwife (5.8 million) and Doctor Read full story ›
