A painstaking Twitter recreation of 80s Tom Cruise vehicle Top Gun has been forced offline by lawyers representing film studio paramount, over concerns that the project breached its copyright.
A takedown notice issued by the studio saw Twitter delete the account of user @555uhz who had been posting subtitled still frames from the movie at a rate of two per hour to recreate the film in micro-blog form.
Despite the Twitter version being heavily edited and non-commercial the Paramount notice stated: “No one is authorized to copy, reproduce, distribute, or otherwise use Top Gun without the express written permission of Paramount.”
