Bitcoin exchange Mt Gox seems to be trying to do its best to disappear, as its website has gone down, with only a blank white screen appearing.

Cryptically, its source code includes the line “put announce for mtgox acq here”, perhaps suggesting an acquisition is on the cards for the troubled business.

Last week, the business changed offices because of ‘safety concerns’ from protesters, after halting withdrawals indefinitely after detecting “unusual activity”, leaving some out of pocket by thousands of pounds, including Kolin Burges, who cannot access his $300,000 of Bitcoins.
