Morrisons to donate unsold to local groups nationwide

Morrisons is to donate its unsold food to local community groups after successfully piloting a scheme across the country.

The supermarket ran the trial in 112 stores, seeing them supply an average of four trolley loads to local groups. On the general rollout, a staff member from each of the 500 stores will liase with volunteers to ensure the pick up of the food.

Stephen Butts, head of corporate responsibility for Morrisons, told the Times: “The challenge is finding the right community partners to work with. What we have available will vary.
