"Most people haven’t been using their Facebook email address,” platform admits as it shuts the service down

Facebook’s email service is set to retire, after the company admitted that ‘most people’ have not been using the product, which launched in 2010.

The company has begun notifying users about the change, which will see emails sent to a @facebook.com account forwarded on to the email address that Facebook has on file for the user.

This feature, which is on by default, will be able to be turned off if a user chooses.
