Facebook trials topic-based newsfeeds on mobile

By Charlotte McEleny Facebook is running a trial within its mobile app of new topic-based newsfeeds, such as lifestyle, travel or headlines. As part of the trial, the social network will still have a core newsfeed but people have options to filter posts from friends and pages much more specifically via the topics. A spokesperson for Facebook, said: “People have told us they’d like new options to see and have conversations about more stories on Facebook around specific topics they’re interested in. ‘Overtly sexual’ ad for cafe in Brighton & Hove Independent newspaper gets ban

By Charlotte McEleny The Brighton branch of Catsteps Cafes-owned The Breakfast Club has received a ban from the ASA for a festive ad that was deemed ‘irresponsible’. The ad, which depicted a snowman with a carrot placed suggestively and two reindeers that ‘appeared to be mating’, was placed in the Brighton & Hove Independent. The complaint, which deemed the ad innapropriate and badly targeted, came from a parent whose five year old saw the ad. The comlplaint was upheld and was deemed inappropriate due to the free and wide distribution of the title. Confused.com announces two new toys as part of Ninja Warrior sponsorship

By Jessica Goodfellow Confused.com has launched two new toys, Miss Herbert and Stunt Herbert, which customers will receive for free when they take out selected products. The brand will sponsor ITV’s show Ninja Warrior UK in a new advertising campaign to market the Herbert characters. The brand has been issuing customers with toys of its original character Brian the Robot since February. Ashley Madison grows subscribers by 4m despite hack attack

By Charlotte McEleny Subscribers to the infidelity dating website Ashley Madison, which suffered a major hack attack this summer, rose from around 39m at the time of the attack in August to 43m, according to its website. The website was targeted by hackers in August, who threatened to expose details of its members if the owner of the website Avid Life Media didn’t take the website down. The Hackers subsequently did release the majority of the data, exposing millions of its members.
