Vodafone partners with Global to foster unsigned music talent

By John Glenday Telecoms giant Vodafone has partnered with media and entertainment group Global to introduce two new platforms designed to give unsigned music talent their big breaks. Fronted by Marvin Humes Vodafone Future Breakers will seek out the brightest unsigned talent from around the UK with listeners, artists and band members invited to submit their tunes and videos for consideration through a dedicated web hub. Vodafone Big Top 40 Breakers meanwhile will be included within the existing chart show, with a remit to highlight new acts which have broken into the charts for the first time each month. Lambie-Nairn hires former AKQA design director as new digital design director

Nissan pulls the plug on leaf app over hacking fears

By John Glenday Electric car manufacturer Nissan has disabled its Leaf app after the discovery of a credible threat by a security researcher which could have seen hackers take control of its vehicles. A software vulnerability shared online opened up the prospect of hackers remotely discharging the battery of a victim’s car whilst obtaining journey time and distance data, forcing Nissan to take down the functionality of its app as a precaution until the issue can be rectified. Pancreatic Cancer UK undergoes 10th anniversary redesign to raise awareness

The new visual identity includes a new logotype, which will act as a signpost for all the work the charity is involved in. Airbnb concedes it purged dodgy listings ahead of publishing rental data

By John Glenday Airbnb stands accused of artificially massaging its listings in an effort to look good after the company conceded that it had purged dodgy listings from the service before the release of key rental data in New York. The listings clear out took place just one month before Airbnb went public on its rental numbers in New York City with an estimated 1,500 of 37,000 listings expunged in the city throughout November.
