Boston Globe & New York Times lead hundreds of US newspapers in united defence of free speech

The Boston Globe and New York Times (NYT) have joined over 200 of their US stablemates in a coordinated defence of free speech in the face of growing disdain from the American government.

Growing disquiet at the poisonous political atmosphere has prompted newspapers large and small to speak with one voice in defence of press freedoms, citing the ideals enshrined in the US constitution as a bulwark against further undermining of the media.
