Convenience store chain Cheers unveiled an unmanned, cashless convenience store at Nanyang Polytechnic last Friday, a first of its kind in Singapore.
The store allows customers to pay for ready-to-eat meals and local dishes like fried rice and hor fun, using one self-checkout system for cashless payments, as well as with quick response codes.
Data and video analytics will be used by the store to analyse purchasing behaviour and customise its inventory, with an auto-ordering system eliminating manual stocktaking.
50 students from NYP’s School of Business will look after the store, which will double up as a training facility.
