Google has snapped up the valuable top level web domain name .app in an auction which saw the firm fork out a bumper $25m.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), a body responsible for selling off newly created web domains, sold the US web giant the .app domain name.
Presumably, the suffix will aid search for Google Play apps – with the firm yesterday (26 February) announcing that it will be tying sponsored ads to its app search queries over the coming months.
