Google preps merger of Chrome OS and Android

Google is preparing to merge its two main operating systems – Chrome OS for its Chromebooks and Android for mobile devices, in an effort to streamline its software.

The move would see the Chromebook name ditched in recognition of the change to an Android-based system – although Google’s Chrome web browser will remain intact.

According to reports in the Wall Street Journal Google has been working behind the scenes on the changes for the past two years to build a universal operating system compatible with PCs to allow people access to the Google Play store from their laptops and computers.
