The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has confirmed that Friday will be the international day for new music releases.
The change was in part spurred by Beyonce’s surprise album release in late 2013, according to Billboard.
As of now, release days vary from country to country. This has caused frustration amongst consumers when fans in different parts of the world have access to new music before them.
IFPI said the move will also help artists who want to use social media to promote their new music while creating a sense of occasion around new releases.
