Al Jazeera staff jailed in Egypt received a cross-media international show of solidarity on Thursday as industry professionals demanded their release.
Peter Greste, Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were imprisoned in December for their association with the Muslim Brotherhood during the course of their work. They will now stand trial for allegedly tarnishing Egypt’s international reputation.
The incident sparked global outrage in the industry, and high profile journalists and media personnel, with the backing or their respective organisations, have stood in solidarity with their industry colleagues under the slogan ‘journalism is not a crime’.
