Apple earned more during its first quarter than any company has ever earned in any quarter

Apple announced today that its quarter one revenues were a record-high $74.6bn, far exceeding its earlier prediction of earnings between $63.5bn and $66.5bn. This is the highest quarterly revenue any company has ever reported.

These high numbers are due in part to the record-breaking launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In the past three months, Apple sold 74m phones–about 34,000 each hour. While the breakdown of which phones make up which percentage of these sales was not released, CEO Tim Cook assured the public that the newest phones were the most popular.
